IL02 - Compare Maps

The upcoming special election for Illinois' 2nd congressional district is expected to feature a large number of candidates, many of whom have run in (and/or won in) districts that were in part or in whole in the new 2nd congressional district. Unfortunately I don't have the maps that were in effect during the 1990's but I do have the current maps as well as the maps that were in effect prior to redistricting, so I've created this little utlilty to help visualize these various political boundaries and past and current districts.

Here is a list of the map options available:

• CD 2 (2012-2011) - This is the boundary of the district these candidates will be running for.
• Illinois Counties - This will overlay all of the Illinois county boundaries. IL-02 covers the southeastern part of Cook, the eastern part of Will and all of Kankakee county. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 88.69% of the vote came from Cook, 5.70% from Will and 5.61% from Kankakee County.
• Ward 4 - Current Alderman: Will Burns, Current Committeeman: Toni Preckwinkle, this ward lies entirely outside (to the north) of IL-02 but it is the power base of both Alderman Will Burns and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.
• Ward 5 - Current Alderman: Leslie Hairston, Current Committeeman: Leslie Hairston, this ward shares some common voters with IL-02 at the very northern end of the district. In the 2012 Democratic primary for IL-02 it was responsible for 4.78% of the total vote.
• Ward 7 - Current Alderman: Sandi Jackson, Current Committeeman: Sandi Jackson, this ward is located almost entirely within IL-02. In 2007 and 2011 the aldermanic race featured both Sandi Jackson and Darcel Beavers with Jackson prevailing each time. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 9.42% of the total vote came from the 7th ward.
• Ward 8 - Current Alderman: Michelle Harris, Current Committeeman: Michelle Harris, this ward is partially located in IL-02 and it is the home base of Todd Stroger and the Stroger family. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 3.52% of the total vote came from the 8th ward.
• Ward 9 - Current Alderman: Anthony Beale, Current Committeeman: Anthony Beale, this ward lies almost entirely within IL-02. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 8.35% fo the total vote came from the 9th ward.
• Ward 10 - Current Alderman: John Pope, Current Committeeman: John Pope, this ward lies completely within IL-02. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 4.41% of the total vote came from the 10th ward.
• Ward 34 - Current Alderman: Carrie Austin, Current Committeeman: Carrie Austin, this ward is only partially located within IL-02. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 2.60% of the total vote came from the 34th ward.
• Bloom Township - Current Committeeman: Terry Matthews, this township is located entirely within IL-02. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 11.14% of the total vote came from Bloom Township.
• Bremen Township - Current Committeeman: Maggie Crotty, this township is only partially located within IL-02. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 5.02% of the total vote came from Bremen Township.
• Calumet Township - Current Committeeman: Bob Rita, this township is only partially located within IL-02. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 0.20% of the total vote came from Calumet Township.
• Rich Township - Current Committeeman: Tim Bradford, this township is almost entirely located within IL-02. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 14.20% of the total vote came from Rich Township.
• Thornton Township - Current Committeeman: Frank Zuccarelli, this township is almost entirely located within IL-02. In the 2012 Democratic Primary for IL-02 25.03% of the total vote came from Thornton Township.
• CD 11 (2002-2011) - Debbie Halvorson was a victorious candidate in this district in 2008 and then lost in the general election of 2010.
• State Sen 15 (2012-2021) - Napoleon Harris was a victorious candidate in this district in 2012.
• State Sen 17 (2002-2011) - Donne Trotter was a victorious candidate in this district in 2002, 2004 and 2008.
• State Sen 17 (2012-2021) - Donne Trotter was a victorious candidate in this district in 2012.
• State Sen 40 (2002-2011) - Debbie Halvorson was a victorious candidate in this district in 2002 & 2006. Toi Hutchinson was a victorious candidate in this district in 2010.
• State Sen 40 (2012-2021) - Toi Hutchinson was a victorious candidate in this district in 2012.
• State Rep 26 (2002-2011) - Prior to becoming 4th ward alderman, Will Burns was a victorious candidate in this district in 2008 & 2010.
• State Rep 29 (2002-2011) - David Miller was a victorious candidate in this district in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 & 2008 (note: 2000 district map had different boundaries)
• State Rep 31 (2002-2011) - Todd Stroger represented this district before later leaving for 8th ward alderman and then Cook County Board President.
• State Rep 38 (2002-2011) - Robin Kelly was a victorious candidate in this district in 2002, 2004 & 2006
• City of South Holland - Robert Shaw ran unsuccessfully for the Village President in South Holland in 2005. He was also previously a Cook County Commissioner and 9th ward alderman.
